Built, Bypassed and Gone: Toodyay’s Railway Walk

Transwa train fares to Toodyay are now half price!  Autumn is the perfect time to visit Toodyay and discover some of our railway history.

Our free 45 minute walk  explores what was lost and what was gained when the standard gauge railway came through 60 years ago.  It starts and finishes at the Toodyay Visitors Centre with morning tea provided at the conclusion. The route includes a visit to the new Newcastle Gaol Museum exhibition “Toodyay Railways: A Tale of Two Lines”.

The walk has been timed to fit between the arrival and departure times of the MerredinLink service on Wednesdays and Fridays from the East Perth  station. The train arrives at Toodyay at 10.07am and departs Toodyay at 3.06pm.  The journey through the scenic Avon Valley from East Perth takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes.  There are lots of specialty shops and dining options nearby to experience after the walk.

Some sections of the walk are uphill, so a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
